The trailer of Piku was launched and while we laughed uncontrollably with the potty references, a little tear had to be wiped as well seeing the father daughter relationship nuanced so perfectly by Amitabh Bachchan and Deepika Padukone. The storyline from the trailer doesn’t seem too complicated as it shows us an ageing man completely dependant on his young daughter. His helplessness when it comes to managing his day –to-day activities and how his daughter is exasperated but at the same the love for her father keeps her from falling apart. Dippy and Big B play simple middle class Bengali folks and the Bengali accent has come quite naturally for Big B. Dippy on the other hand plays a working woman who carries off the salwar-kameez and bindi look with quite élan. Irrfan Khan who plays Dippy’s love interest in the film has quite a sarcastic sense of humour and we see to see more of his quirky side in the film.
The movie also seems to have a road trip track wherein they travel from New Delhi To Kolkata and we can’t help but compare it slightly with Deepika’s previously released film Finding Fanny. A special mention to Moushumi Chatterjee who is also shown to have an impeccable timing with her jokes. Also there is a short scene where Deepika is shown playing with a small girl, but it is not clear if she plays a single mother. It’s amazing how Shoojit Sircar tries to bring out emotions through bodily fluids.
