Satyajit Ray’s iconic character Feluda is going to be featured in a local television drama series based on the adventures of the fictional private investigator. Director Shahriar Shakil has recently got the copyright from Sandip Ray, son of Satyajit Ray, to make a teleplay series on 20 Feluda stories. It will be made under the banner of Alpha Eye Media Productions Ltd. ‘As a Feluda fan, I have always wanted to work on that detective character. It’s a great honour for me to have the go-ahead from Sandipan Ray, who even didn’t allow any Indian director to make a teleplay on that before,’ said Shakil. Each of the stories will be featured through a five-episode season, resulting in a total of 20 seasons of 100 episodes. ‘I have not decided about the cast yet. But I can say that the roles of Feluda, Topshey and Jotayu will remain unchanged throughout the series, but there will be new characters in each season depending on the story.’
Shakil also said he is planning to start pre-production work including script and casting as early as possible.
Feluda first made his appearance in a Bengali children’s magazine called Sandesh in 1965, under the editorialship of Satyajit Ray and Subhas Mukhopadhyay. His first adventure was Feludar Goendagiri. The Feluda series comprises of 35 complete novels and four incomplete stories.
The Feluda stories that will be featured in the teleplay series are Feludar Goyendagiri, Koilash Chowdhury’s Pathor, Sheyal-Debotar Rahosso, Baksho Rohosso, Somaddorer Chabi, Ghurghutiyar Ghotona, Gosaipur Sorgorom, Gorostane Shabdhan, Golokdhadhar Rohosso, Nepoleon-er Chithi, Tintoretor Jissu, Anbar Sen Antardhan Rohosso, Jahangir-er Swarnomudra, Bose Pukure Khunkharapi, Apsora Theatre-er Mamla, Shakuntalar Kanthahaar, Dr. Munshir Diary, Nayan Rohosso, Golapi Muktar Rohosso, Robertsoner Ruby and Indrajal Rohosso.
