Runa Laila performs on golden jubilee

It was a memorable experience for the few hundred audience-members who gathered at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre on Friday evening, as Runa Laila performed to celebrate the golden jubilee of her illustrious musical career. The singer performed some of her old classics and hit Bangla, Hindi and Urdu numbers that made her a household name in Bangladesh, India and Pakistan. She also performed songs requested by the audience.
Sometimes she sang alone, sometimes flanked by other musicians including Shakila Zafar, Abida Sultana, Rafikul Alam, Kona and others. Indian singer Krishakumar Kunnath (KK) and Pakistani actor-singer Fawad Khan also performed at the show. Runa appeared at the concert, organised by Entourage Entertainment, accompanied by four young female singers and received a standing ovation as she began the mid-stave ‘Kokhono Gaan Theme Gele/ Amake Jeona Bhule’ of her popular song ‘Shilpi’.
A celebration cake was cut with noted artistes and Runa’s family members in attendance.
Runa then began to mesmerize the audience with one song after another, presenting fan-favourites like Station-er Rail Garita, Sadher Lau, Paan Khaiya Thot, Bondhu Tin Din, Je Jon Premer Bhab Janena and Ei Bristi Bheja Ratey.
Runa also presented a few hit Hindi and Urdu numbers including De De Peyar De, O Mera Babu, Dama Daam Mast Kalander and others.
While the singer chose to perform mostly romantic and high-tempo numbers, she also sang some sad songs like Chanchala Haware, Jokhoni Thambe Kolahol and Jokjon Ami Thakbo Na at the request of the audience.
Following her, Indian singer KK took the podium and performed some of his hit numbers including Kya Mujhe Pyar Hai, O Meri Jaan, and Khuda Jane. Fawad Khan, on the other hand, shared several minutes with the audience and answered some queries.
