Mamunur Rashid and Mita Chowdhury will pair up for the first time on stage for a production by Bangla Theatre which is going to premiere today at the Studio Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy. Although the actors have worked in many productions in their decades-long stage careers, the play, titled Omanush, marks their first pairing with Mamunur Rashid also directing the production. A preview of the show was already held on Monday at the same stage. ‘Omanush is a take on the growing dehumanization of our society and politics and its impact on people’s lives,’ said Rashid, who has also written the play. The play depicts the impacts of sociopolitical anomalies on the lives of an aged couple, played by Rashid and Chowdhury. Rashid is a docile teacher who keeps his mouth shut in the initial part of the one-hour play but later, convinced by his wife, starts raising his voice against social injustice.
‘It’s a two-character play with a good story and innovative techniques of presentation. I hope the audience will like it,’ said Mita Chowdhury.
